Are you asking the wrong question...?
So there I was, 30th birthday approaching.
Unlike most who freak out hitting a new decade - "OMG - I'm getting ooooooooold!!" - I was still wondering how I wasn't 30 already. Especially given it had felt like I'd lived a 1,000 different lives already.
Nope, instead of freaking out, I wanted to celebrate. To make this one really memorable. A 'nice' meal was missing the mark for this cornerstone.
So I hit Google up and went exploring across the internet to see what fun I could find. And there it was...
MOUNTAIN TREKKING ACROSS THE MOROCCAN MOUNTAINS.
I could happily travel solo to Morocco and meet a dozen other excited mountain trekking adventurers also flying in on there own.
Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Oh the fun (and challenge) it would be.
So, there I was. Impatient for the 30th birthday to arrive already so I could taste some real Moroccan food, meet the locals, photograph the sunset at a few hundred (thousand?) feet. See some goats (are there mountain goats in Morocco? I dunno, I imagine there should be).
So as the birthday was approaching people started asking - "so, whatchya got planned for your 30th?"
Which was always an awesome question because instantly got to beam an uncontrollable smile and detail my plans of playing with mountain goats, mingling with traditional Moroccan village folk and eating bowlfuls of curry under beside a camp fire under the stars.
BUT THEN... THEN WOULD COME THE INEVITABLE QUESTION...
"OH. RIGHT. EH, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DOTHAT?!"
This question also always came with a seriously wrinkled forehead and furrowed brows. The type I'd expect if a huge purple horn had just sprouted out of my own head.
Because MOUNTAIN GOATS. Because CAMPFIRE STORIES WITH NEW FRIENDS. Because WARM CHICKPEA TAGINES. Because ADVENTURE. Because LIFE.
Because life is more than just plodding along and getting by, doing 'OK'. It's more than just going to work each and every day and following orders in exchange for a measly pay cheque each month just so you can pay the rent and - maybe - spend a week in Majorca, AKA, the same place you also spent the last two holidays.
Life is for grabbing by the janglies, and loving every single second possible of it.
And yes, sometimes that means trekking across Moroccan mountains and exploring freakin' cool new countries you've yet to explore. And mountain goats.
So maybe, just maybe - (read very very likely), you're asking yourself (and me) the wrong question with "why?". When you should definitely maybe be saying "YES! WHY THE HELL NOT?!" - Because believe me, it's a heck lot more fun.
