So let’s just say growing up I didn’t learn the best food habits, which meant I spent the first 25 years of my life carrying around a few (ok, more than a few) too many extra pounds.
About 30 extra pounds to be exact, meaning whole 3 extra dress sizes, and I felt every last one of ‘em.
While I loved the idea of going clothes shopping, in reality I hated it. I hated how most clothes on me, while I was‘poking’ out in all the wrong places (any extra weight for me always goes on my tum first, and looking 5 months pregnant when you’re not… #InstantConfidenceKiller).
I hated looking in the mirror and feeling ashamed of what I saw, because the person I was looking at and seeing didn’t feel like me at all, not the ‘real’ me inside, and it had a huge impact on my life.
So of course I tried every diet that passed by.
Calorie counting, red days, greed days, point counting, following strict meal plans, banning certain foods, and even some weird cabbage soup thing.
Yet while they all promised to be the holy grail, none of them worked.
I was either constantly hungry - which meant the diet would last a week - max - or I’d be riddled with guilt every time I’d grab a snack to curb the hunger pangs.
And even when I wasn't hungry, I’d be constantly craving all of my favourite foods, which just left me feeling deprived and thinking about food EVEN MORE, so again, the diet would last a week - tops.
So after 10 years of on/off ‘dieting’ and getting no where (except an extra dress size or two larger), I decided enough was well and truly enough and that there really had to be another way, because something had to change as this 'dieting' and willpower clearly wasn’t working.
So I decided to read every single food psychology book I could get my hands on, and HU-FRIGGIN’-RAH, after tying it all together I finally found it - and so simple too, you'll love it!
It all came down to a little Mindfulness, and using it in such a way that allowed me to eat the foods I LOVED, enjoy my food fully (without ever feeling guilty every time I had a snack when hungry, or ate a ‘naughty’ food (side note, there are no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods with Mindful Eats, more on that later), AND lose weight - every last 30 of them extra pounds.
Yet using the Mindful Eats method, I didn’t just lose the weight, I’ve also kept it off for the last 9(ish) years without having to touch another diet, and OMG I feel 1,000,000x better for it.
